Ribose becomes first organization outside UK to achieve new ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification

World’s first technology company to achieve certification by BSI

[Hong Kong] – 25 September 2015 – Cloud collaboration platform provider Ribose has become the first organization outside of the UK to achieve accredited certification to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015, the newly revised international standards for Quality Management Systems and Environmental Management Systems. Ribose is also the first technology company worldwide to receive ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 certification.

ISO 9001 is the world’s most widely recognized standard for quality management systems, and its latest revision was published on 23 September 2015. The standard helps organizations consistently meet the needs of customers and other key stakeholders in both the delivery and continuous improvement of products and services.

ISO 14001 is the world’s first international standard for environmental management systems, with its latest revision published on 15 September 2015. This standard helps organizations comply with environmental regulations, minimizing their environmental footprint and improving their environmental performance.

The new standards both feature a high level structure (HLS) – including terms, definitions, headings and text common to all management system standards in accordance to ISO Annex SL – allowing easier integration when implementing multiple management systems. Both of the new standards improve over previous revisions by requiring organizations to prioritize business needs, improving efficiency by implementing organizational-wide risk based thinking, better risk management, and enhanced leadership responsibility.

Ribose’s independent assessment and certification was performed by BSI (British Standards Institution), the originator of the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards, and the first globally accredited certification body for ISO 9001:2015 as well as currently the only globally accredited certification body for ISO 14001:2015, both accredited by the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB). Ribose’s revised certifications were issued the day ISO 9001:2015 was published, and the day after BSI received the world’s first ISO 14001:2015 accreditation from ANAB.

Ribose’s founder Ronald Tse explained, “Ribose is honored to be the first organization outside the UK – and the first technology company in the world – to achieve compliance to the new ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards. Internationally certified, world-class corporate governance is one of our hallmarks, and we remain committed to upholding the highest standards of governance and transparency.”

“Ribose has been using the new ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 draft standards to improve internal performance since they were first published in 2014. After assessing the revisions and their implications, we’ve been able to ensure our implementation takes full advantage of the new structure to streamline operations and enhance environmental performance,” Tse continued.

Tse concluded, “Achieving certification to these latest ISO standards demonstrates Ribose’s ongoing dedication to achieving the highest levels of corporate governance and environmental responsibility.”

Emmanuel Hervé, VP, Standards & Professional Solutions and Managing Director Hong Kong of BSI, said, “Ribose has achieved a major milestone in becoming the first organization outside of the UK to achieve simultaneous certification to the newly published ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards – confirming their commitment to continuous improvement of governance, practices and performance. It is encouraging to see a smaller organization like Ribose operating to the same stringent standards as the best-managed companies in the world.”

Ribose achieves world’s most extensive integrated management system compliant to PAS 99: Certified integration of seven management systems

8 July 2015 – Hong Kong – Cloud collaboration platform provider Ribose has achieved the world’s most extensive integrated management system (IMS) certified to the PAS 99 standard.

Certified by BSI (British Standards Institution), Ribose’s IMS covers all seven of the company’s management systems, each already compliant to a separate management system standard (MSS) including:

  • ISO 9001:2008 Quality management systems – Requirements, the international standard for quality management systems (QMS)

  • ISO 14001:2004 Environmental management systems – Requirements with guidance for use, the international standard for environmental management systems (EMS)

  • BS OHSAS 18001:2007 Occupational health and safety management systems – Requirements, the internationally applied British Standard for occupational health and safety management systems (OHSMS)

  • ISO/IEC 20000-1:2011 Information technology – Service management – Part 1: Service management system requirements, the international standard for IT service management systems (SMS)

  • ISO 22301:2012 Societal security – Business continuity management systems – Requirements, the international standard for business continuity management systems (BCMS)

  • ISO/IEC 27001:2013 Information technology – Security techniques – Information security management systems – Requirements, the international standard for information security management systems (ISMS)

  • ISO 50001:2011 Energy management systems – Requirements with guidance for use, the international standard for energy management systems (EnMS)

PAS 99 is the world’s first framework for integrating management systems built on different management systems standards (MSS), specifying requirements for streamlining MSSs, allowing for improved business focus, a more universal approach to risk mitigation and improved operational efficiency.

Created to align with the ISO Directive Annex SL, the PAS 99:2012 standard goes a step further by ensuring the results of streamlining management systems work effectively and as intended. At present, PAS 99 certification is the only impartial way to determine if an IMS has achieved its intention of integrating operating systems efficiently and effectively, providing a common bar on how an integrated management system should function and continuously improve through certification.

According to Ribose’s founder Ronald Tse, “Ribose chose to build a streamlined, integrated management system right from the beginning. As a small company with a limited number of staff, we wanted to manage all aspects of the company as efficiently as possible. Streamlining our IMS through PAS 99 certification helped us avoid overlapping elements and duplicated effort across our different management systems.”

“Taking our commitment to holistic, comprehensive collaboration to heart, we have integrated our information security, business continuity, quality, IT services, environmental, energy and occupational health and safety management systems into a whole – allowing us to effectively manage these aspects of our operations without the typical overhead that can bog down non-integrated systems,” explained Mr. Tse. “Our highly dynamic information security management system, which has continuously received the highest security ratings and certified to the most stringent security standards including CSA STAR, CSA C-STAR, MTCS and AICPA SOC, also operates as part of this IMS.”

Mr. Tse concluded, “PAS 99 certification confirms that Ribose has integrated its management systems correctly, and that the IMS performs effectively – providing better oversight and control for our management team, while ensuring the highest level of service for our users.”

Emmanuel Herve, Managing Director of BSI Hong Kong and VP of Standards, remarked, “We commend Ribose for its commitment to the highest levels of corporate governance. Standards are designed to level the playing field, and Ribose’s numerous achievements in certification attest that smaller businesses can indeed compete against larger organizations by building upon standards.”

Mr. Herve added, “Management systems help companies get more from their business, and integrating these management systems allows them to realize even greater benefits without additional investment of time or money. PAS 99 provides a framework for the most streamlined method to achieve this goal. We congratulate Ribose on being the first company to integrate seven management systems under PAS 99, setting a strong example for the industry to follow.”

Ribose becomes first collaboration platform to complete UK Cyber Essentials Plus

20 May 2015 – London / Hong Kong – Ribose has become the world’s first collaboration platform to complete the UK Cyber Essentials Plus assessment, a UK Government-backed and industry-supported scheme that helps to protect businesses against cyber threats.

Launched in June 2014, Cyber Essentials was developed by CESG (the information security arm of GCHQ) and the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills in conjunction with BSI (British Standards Institution), the Information Assurance for Small and Medium Enterprises (IASME) consortium and the Information Security Forum (ISF). Since October 2014, Cyber Essentials certification has been mandatory for UK central government ICT (Information and Communications Technology) suppliers that handle sensitive and personal information.

A two-level program, Cyber Essentials certification is awarded upon completion of a self-assessment questionnaire with independent verification. Cyber Essential Plus certification is optional, and provides a higher level of assurance through independent security controls testing by an external certifying body, focusing on resilience against external cyber threats.

“Ribose is proud to be the world’s first collaboration platform to achieve both Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essential Plus certification,” commented Ronald Tse, founder of Ribose. “After being awarded our Cyber Essentials certification by IASME in August 2014, we were excited to receive Cyber Essential Plus certification accredited by CREST following an independent assessment by Cyberis.”

“Cyber Essentials Plus provides independent, third-party verification of our security systems and controls, and also demonstrates our commitment to information security – especially in respect of the UK market,” Tse explained.

According to Geoff Jones, Director of Cyberis, "Cyberis is pleased to award a successful pass certificate to Ribose under the CREST Cyber Essentials Plus scheme. This shows a clear commitment to information security within Ribose, and demonstrates fundamental technical security controls are in place to help defend against Internet-borne threats."

Ribose: World’s first cloud service provider certified to Multi-Tier Cloud Security standard achieves highest Level 3 security tier

Singapore/Hong Kong, 8 December 2014 – Ribose, the world’s first cloud service provider (CSP) certified to Singapore’s Multi-Tier Cloud Security (MTCS) program, has recently achieved the highest possible security tier: Level 3.

Initiated by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) and launched by SPRING Singapore, the MTCS standard (SS 584:2013) specifies stringent security and operational requirements for CSPs, encouraging adoption of sound risk management and security practices. MTCS Certification specifies three tiers of security levels, with Level 3 being the highest. The Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC) has recently launched an accreditation program for MTCS Certification.

Ribose was the first CSP worldwide to achieve MTCS certification in June 2014 with a security tier of Level 1. Following a thorough evaluation by BSI (British Standards Institution), a participating Certification Body for the MTCS standard, Ribose has upgraded its certification to the highest security tier, Level 3 – indicating its platform is suitable for running high-impact workloads, serving business- and mission-critical purposes, and hosting sensitive information as well as highly confidential business data.

“Ribose is proud to be the first Software-as-a-Service (Saas) provider certified to the MTCS standard, and the first SaaS platform to achieve the coveted Level 3 security tier,” explained Ronald Tse, founder of Ribose.  “This is a major milestone for Ribose, confirming our platform’s government-approved security standards for handling users’ highly sensitive and confidential data.”

Owen Xu, General Manager of BSI Singapore, commented, “BSI takes pride in employing the most stringent auditing standards in the industry. With over 60,000 clients around the globe, our experts have audited many of the world’s largest companies and government organizations that require top-notch security. By achieving MTCS at Level 3, Ribose has demonstrated its platform’s security is indeed world-class.”
